Village of Wayne Public Comment Policy

Village of Wayne does not care what you have to say!

No where in this document adopted by the Village of Wayne on 8/19/25 does it allow or protect public comments for people who attend Village Board meetings via Zoom. The village can deny access to remote attendees who wish to make public comment over Zoom simply by removing the language from the meeting agenda. You cannot submit an OMA violation complaint since it is not specified in the public comment policy adopted by the board as a permitted way to make public comment.  They are refusing to document public comment in the meeting minutes and anyone who wants to know what a written public comment states must submit a FOIA request to obtain the information. They don't care what you have to say and they don't want anyone to know what you had to say. They can choose to respond to public comment or they can choose to ignore you. They claim to have expanded your opportunities to speak and they have taken away your ability to have written public comment read aloud at a meeting held in a non-ADA compliant venue and will never publish it for all to read with the meeting minutes like the counties do. This public comment policy is not published on the Village website nor the Facebook page.

This policy was amended because Village President Eileen Phipps had to read a written public comment about the Village Treasurer Howard Levine submitting falsified village financials. Howard gets to keep his seat, not do his job as per the law and the public had their voice stifled for demanding answers.

About Us

The Wayne Residents Committee (WRC)  was founded in July 2020. A group of neighbors gathered over Zoom to explore ideas for resolving the perfect storm—increased traffic as a result of the Red Gate Bridge at the same time as reduced police patrolling of our streets.

The following year, residents learned that the Village Board voted to outsource the third shift police coverage of our community, without including residents in their decision.

Over time, more thoughtful residents joined the WRC to share their ideas and issues, including the lack of communication by village officials, inadequate internet and cell coverage, poor pedestrian access throughout town, no organized parks, and overly restricted village codes.

The WRC is here for all residents of Wayne, working collectively to remind our village leadership that they are elected to serve the residents and not the other way around. The WRC welcomes all residents of Wayne to this website and our Facebook page. Thank you!
