The WRC was founded in July 2020. A group of neighbors gathered over Zoom to explore ideas for resolving the perfect storm—increased traffic as a result of the Red Gate Bridge at the same time as reduced police patrolling of our streets. Our village officials created this perfect storm and then willfully neglected its resolution.
Enter the unthinkable dog shooting and more and more thoughtful residents joined the WRC to share their stories, their issues…of lack of communication, of no overnight police protection, of continued speeding vehicles and terrible accidents, of poor pedestrian access through town, of no children's park, of flooded yards and basements, of inadequate internet and cell coverage, of overly strict village codes—but not for the church and municipal officials seeking to raze their nationally-registered historic buildings, nor the mayor’s husband who murdered a neighbor’s pet. For them, village codes didn’t apply.
This is a “Rules for Thee, Not for Me” form of government, not one we care to embrace.
